"Aucun parent ne devrait avoir à entendre les mots que votre enfant a un cancer, mais nous l'avons fait le 11 février 2017."
Steph, is the Volunteer Coordinator of the Camp Quality Northern Ontario, Camp Organizing Committee (COC). In this role, she helps to recruit, train and support camp volunteers so that they are prepared to provide every camper an incredible experience.

Preparing for camp is truly a year-round effort, with so much happening behind the scenes to bring one incredible week to life. In my role as Volunteer Coordinator, my focus is on the people who make camp so special, our volunteers. A large part of my work involves recruiting new volunteers and staying connected with our returning volunteers, helping maintain that strong sense of community. I also work closely with other Camp Organizing Committee members on our fundraising initiatives and community partnerships. I really enjoy connecting with people, sharing the impact of camp, and finding meaningful ways to raise awareness and create lasting relationships within our community.
I support volunteers by making sure they know they’re never doing this alone. From the start, I emphasize that they have a strong support system not just from me, but from the entire camp community. I also make sure they have the tools they need to succeed by answering questions, providing training, and offering ongoing support so they feel confident and prepared. Most importantly, I reinforce that everything we do is centered around the campers. Keeping that focus helps volunteers create a safe, fun, and meaningful experience for every child.

What keeps me coming back each year is the people. I love working with our volunteers, supporting them, and helping make their experience meaningful and successful. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact camp has on them as well. There’s also a strong sense of community at camp that’s truly special and keeps you connected long after the week ends. Most importantly, it’s seeing how all the hard work comes together to create an unforgettable week for our campers. Knowing we’re helping bring joy, confidence, and fun to their lives makes it all worth it.
